Square Peg Departs After Not Fitting Into Round Hole / Ep 464 / Blue City Radio

Episode 464:

Talles Magno’s time with NYCFC will never be clearly defined in a single term or word. His arrival was met with high praise and fanfare. He was a key to the NYCFC offense often drawing double team defense that created space for others to operate. He was a magician with the ball at his feet, but following the departure of Ronny Deila Talles was mismanaged. Nick Cushing’s style didn’t favor Talles’s talents and the situation quickly became the cliche of the square peg in the round hole.

This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen look back the young Brazilian phenoms career with NYCFC. They also discuss how this departure and the conversations that Nick Cushing shared with the press inform how Nick will be judged as a coach that can be trusted.

In the second segment the guys touch on the game in New England from Friday and the upcoming match at Red Bull Arena against Tigres.

Thank You, Ronny. Hi, Justin Haak / Ep 368 / Blue City Radio

Episode 368:

For the second time in their short history an NYCFC Head Coach left the team for a job in Europe mid-season. The biggest difference between this departure and that of Patrick Vieira in 2018 was that the news broke much sooner to Deila’s departure. There was no weeks long tug of war between the coach and the media. There was the game in Belson Stadium, the away match in Minnesota and then all of a sudden Ronny was gone.

This week Mike, J.R. and Chris Campbell from the Outfield discuss the news of Nick Cushing being named interim head coach for the rest of the season.

In the second segment the guys welcome NYCFC homegrown midfielder, Justin Haak, to the show to talk about his career at NYCFC.

Chanot Loves NY, As Rochester and Columbus Are Sent packing / Ep 365 / Blue City Radio

Episode 365:

NYCFC struggled in league play during their Champions League run. With the club playing their first US Open Cup match last week and then disposing of the Columbus Crew on Saturday, it seems like the team is better suited to juggle the increase in games better this time around.

This week the guys look back at the two games from last week. They also discuss the new extension for defender Maxime Chanot.

A Soggy Affair In Queens / Ep 364 / Blue City Radio

Episode 364:

After scoring fourteen goals in their previous three games the dynamic attack of NYCFC fell back down to earth. Was it the absence of leading scorer for the team, Taty Castellanos? Was it Delia’s conservative approach to the game? Did Ronny break the cardinal rule and leave one eye focused on Wednesday’s Open Cup match?

This week the guys discuss what they saw from Saturdays waterlogged affair. They also touch on the slew of injuries to players on the astroturf fields after two league stars fell victim this past week.

The Icing On The Cake / Ep 363 / Blue City Radio

NYCFC would return to the Bronx on Sunday after calling Queens home for a week. The Pigeons would host the Quakes at Yankee Stadium for an early afternoon snoozer. That is until NYCFC found their mojo with a goal by Keaton Parks in the 74″. NYCFC would add another four minutes later, but the icing on the cake came in the 88″ as Chris Gloster would silkily slide in his first of his MLS career.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen give their takes on the Sunday matinee. The guys bring on NYCFC II contributor, Bjorn Bellenbaum, in the second segment to discuss the MLS Next Pro squad as they host Toronto FC II on Sunday.
