Guess We Got History Now / Ep 119 / Blue City Radio

Episode 119:

It was a roller coaster of a week for NYCFC and it’s fans.  Following a hard fought draw in Dallas, the team flew directly to Sandy, UT and prepared for a midweek match up with RSL.  Joined by the few team members that did not make the trip to Texas, the team started off the RSL game by capitalizing on a defensive error.  Sadly, NYCFC was unable to hold the scoreline conceding twice.  I guess luckily for most fans, they didn’t have to suffer through a poor performance because YES Network delayed the broadcast until after midnight rather than moving the game to a subsidiary channel.  Has no one at YES watch an Olympic event on CNBC? It’s a common practice nowadays.

On Friday Andrea Pirlo celebrated his 38th birthday, a milestone for sure, but it would appear that he celebrated on his own at home in Manhattan after returning to NY following a knee injury.

Then came the glorious game on Sunday.  NYCFC went into Orlando Stadium, a place where in it’s young history the home team had only dropped two points out of it’s first six games, and handed the Lions their first loss.

Mike and Jon break down the key points from both games.  They discuss Patrick Vieira’s comments from the past three games and look into the contrast or evolution of the still relatively inexperienced head coach.

In the second segment, the color analyst for Fox Sports and one of the most polarizing pundits in soccer today, Alexi Lalas, joins the show to shed more light and depth on his thoughts on NYCFC, Villa, Pirlo and or course the rest of the beautiful Pigeons.

The guys wrap up the show with some final thoughts on the week and look ahead at the tough task of taking on Atlanta United in front of another sellout crowd this Sunday.

Tough Earned Point, Mark Followill and a Two-fer week Special / Ep 118 / Blue City Radio

Episode 118:

With a full two-game week ahead for NYCFC, Mike and Jon jump right into the previews of both road games versus Real Salt Lake on Wednesday and Orlando City on Sunday.  No predictions, just a look at what to expect against both teams and how Patrick Vieira might manage his roster rotation.

In the second segment, play-by-play announcer for FC Dallas and the voice on the TV for FS1 on Sunday’s game, Mark Followill, joins the show.  The guys dig deep into Mark’s journey to where he is today, breakdown some keys from the Dallas draw and tackle the myths of Broadcaster jinxes.

In the final segment the guys give their final thoughts on NYCFC’s performance, look ahead to the U20 World Cup beginning on Saturday in South Korea and more.

It’s a long show, get ready.

“The Best High Press Team Ever” Falls to NYCFC, Plus a Chat with Brian Dunseth / Ep 117 / Blue City Radio

Episode 117:

Some were expecting a dynamic match on a damp Sunday in the Bronx, but NYCFC played what David Villa called the best game the team has played so far.  In the end, the home team walked away with three points against Atlanta United.

Mike and Jon discuss the game and where the team’s bright spots are through eight games.

In the second segment Sirius XM’s, Brian Dunseth joins the guys to give his thoughts on the new-look NYCFC.

NYCFC 2.0 Handles the Crew and Eric Quintana Explains ATL / Ep 116 / Blue City Radio

Episode 116:

Without Andrea Pirlo or David Villa, NYCFC head to Mapfre Stadium, a place they’ve never won and get a gritty 3-2 victory.  Newcomers Ben Sweat and Manchester City Loanee, Yangel Herrera both factored heavily into the outcome teaming up for the equalizer in the second half.  Herrera also getting an assist on NYCFC’s goal ahead goal.

After breaking down the game and discussing what this outcome means for the future of NYCFC, Mike and Jon invite Eric Quintana (@EricGQuintana) from Mouths of the South Podcast to join the show and breakdown the Atlanta United ahead of their first trip to New York.
