Hanging With the City Boys / Ep 422 / Blue City Radio

Episode 422:

You’re not dreaming. NYCFC actually thumped an opponent. Granted it was Toronto, but former NYCFC captain, Sean Johnson, was in net for the Reds, so the level of enjoyment is high. The victory also meant that NYCFC should advance in the Leagues Cup, which they did after Atlas defeated Toronto on Sunday.

This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen welcome Danny and Javier Gutierrez from The City Boys Podcast to the show. Together they breakdown last week’s victory and talk about the new players joining the squad.

Ready For the Reds / Ep 252 / Blue City Radio

Episode 252:

This week Mike, Jon and J.R. look at the exciting results from the first week of the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. In the second segment, Benedict Rhodes from Waking the Red joins the guys to help given a northern perspective on TFC and their approach to Wednesday’s Eastern Conference Semi-Final. Make sure you listen to the “Dome Out” montage that J.R. created from clips from earlier in 2019 at the end of the show.

Stealing 3 Pts From TFC, Getting to Know LI Rough Rider’s Stephen Roche / Ep 193 / Blue City Radio

Episode 193:

NYCFC didn’t play their best game this past Sunday.  In previous seaons, it used to take a team’s best to beat Toronto at home in BMO Field.  Luckily for NYCFC, this is 2018 and even a lackluster performance and flashes of brilliance can be enough.

Mike, Jon and J.R. sit down to discuss the biggest moments from Sunday’s match.  They also crown a Bronx Bomber and a Bronx Cheer recipient for the game.

In the second segment, Dave Harris and Long Island Rough Riders Head Coach, Stephen Roche join the show to talk to us about USL/PDL and NYCFC newcomer, Danny Bedoya.

Lastly, Mike and J.R. wrap up with your comments.

NYCFC’s First Roster Moves, MLS Cup Preview and Gulati Out / Ep 146 / Blue City Radio

Episode 146:

The table is set for a rematch between last year’s MLS Cup Finalists, Toronto and Seattle, but these are very different teams from last year.  Clint Dempsey while not at full strength is very active in the Sounder’s attack and TFC added depth and creativity, most notably in the addition of Victor Vazquez to the already potent offense.

Mike and Jon take their usual places behind the mic for this episode and Nick Chavez joins the guys for a preview of the MLS Cup Final.  The guys also tackle the breaking news about Sunil Gulati and his announcement that he will not seek re-election for US Soccer President in February.

Lastly, the guys tackle the NYCFC news on player options as the club releases some key players from the 2017 campaign.

Dropping a Duece, Fire On the Horizon / Ep 127 / Blue City Radio

Episode 127:

NYCFC once again conceded early, once again equalized and gained a lead, but what is becoming far too often a talking point, Patrick Vieira made odd choices with his substitutions and NYCFC dropped the points.

In this week’s episode Mike and Jon break down the game and sprinkle in some post-game comments.

The second segment welcomes back Fire Confidential’s Guillermo Rivera as he joins the show to give his insight into the Chicago Fire and their historic turn-around.

History In the Making, and a Work In Progress / Ep 95 / Blue City Radio

Episode 95

Part of NYCFC’s identity is quickly becoming, when the expectations are at their highest, the team’s performance is their lowest.  Once again, the supporters were ready for a great fight from NYCFC and the team well flat.

Mike and Jon discuss the impact of the game from Sunday and start the task of looking ahead to the 2017 season.

In the second segment Matt Reed from NBC Sports and Pro Soccer Talk comes in to discuss the MLS Cup Playoffs and NYCFC’s season and historic first-ever playoff run.  We close out the show looking ahead at USAvMEX.

Not the NYCFC Way / Ep 94 / Blue City Radio

Episode 94:

Patrick Vieira seemed to have lost faith in NYCFC’s ability to score.  The coach who constantly said, “Our style is to create more chances than we concede” put a defensive lineup on the first ever playoff game in NYCFC history, and they lost, creating zero big chances in the process.

We flip the show around today in honor of Vieira’s folly, and also because we forgot to record a segment on Monday, but hey, it works.

In the second segment Mike is joined by Dan Riccio from TFC Pitchside to get the perspective of the Toronto media and their outlook on Sunday’s second leg game.

The third segment is a great talk with announcer Tom Kolker from WFAN who tells the guys his highs and lows of the game from Toronto.

NYCFC still have a chance, they’ve delivered in the past, the big question going into the game, will Vieira set them up for success or failure.
