Is NYCFC Turning Die-hard Fans Into Casual Fans? / Ep 431 / Blue City Radio

Episode 431:

The day would eventually come. The possibly lingered in the distance like a mirage in the desert. Was NYCFC going to keep their playoff appearance streak alive? No.

Now comes the reset. The team will continue to train for the next few weeks as the MLS Cup Playoffs roll on, but all of the sweat and determination will be steps towards success in 2024.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen tie a bow on the NYCFC season. They also include post-game audio from the locker room in CitiField from Birk Risa, Andres Jasson, Christian McFarlane, Keaton Parks and James Sands.

The Blues Brothers of NYCFC / Ep 401 / Blue City Radio

Episode 401:

NYCFC played their second game of the 2023 season and it was a 1-1 draw in Chicago. While the result and the progression of play was important the real story of the week was the return of two Championship caliber players, James Sands and Santi Rodriguez.

But even that is not the headline of this week’s episode. The real treat for listeners and NYCFC fans is the interview in the second segment as Joe Tolleson and Ian Joy reunite on the microphones to chat NYCFC with the guys.

In the final segment Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen share their recap of the draw from Chicago and also listen to a brief interview captured at training with Andres Jasson.

Righting the Ship (Hopefully) / Ep 378 / Blue City Radio

Episode 378:

NYCFC faced two relatively weaker opponents last week, but based on the results you would not have known that. The pigeons dropped three home points at Red Bull Arena against debutantes Charlotte FC, but luckily shook off that performance and stole three points from the Chicago Fire on the weekend.

It was a week of poor midfield defending from both NYCFC and their opponents.

The guys take a quick look at each game and then discuss the newest signing off waivers.

Climbing The Table / Ep 366 / Blue City Radio

Episode 366:

NYCFC earned their first road win of the season last Wednesday down in DC. Then the Pigeons hosted Chicago at CitiField on Sunday and beat the visitors 1-0 to earn a record fifth straight clean sheet victory.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen review the week and look ahead at Wednesday’s Open Cup game versus New England.

Six Important Points / Ep 342 / Blue City Radio

Episode 342:

Ronny Deila had a very difficult task of getting his players to treat the last five games of the NYCFC season as if it were a final. The team responded thus far and secured 10 of the last 12 possible points leading up to what is now a critical game at home on Sunday versus Philadelphia.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen discuss the last two results and look ahead at the scenarios following Sunday.

Inconsistency At Its Best / Ep 338 / Blue City Radio

Episode 338:

NYCFC went from one of the best teams in the league to a midtable bubble team all in the span of 30 days and seven games. Seven games that would see the team capture only five of 21 points.

NYCFC players, coaches and supporters could not welcome the most recent international break soon enough.

This week Mike and J.R. welcome long time NYCFC podcaster, Trey Fillmore to the show to discuss the September swoon of the boys in blue.

Dropped Road Points / Ep 330 / Blue City Radio

Episode 330:

NYCFC had two really good chances to solidify their position as a MLS Cup contender facing two struggling teams on the road. Sadly they shared the points in both games.

Mike, Mike Allen and J.R. Debart look at this weeks less than thrilling performances and take a look ahead at Wednesday versus Pumas.

MetomorphosisFC – Ep 231 – Blue City Radio

Episode 231:

NYCFC under Dome Torrent had gone 30 games with 29 different lineups and while injuries, suspensions and international absences were always factors, Torrent’s inability to settle on a system was most influential.

Earlier this seaon, Torrent found his ideal formation for the squad both at home and on the road as the team went on a seven game unbeaten streak after adapting to a 3-4-3 formation that hinged on the play of the new striker, Heber.

This past week versus Chicago all of that success and consistency went out the window as the team quickly adjusted to a 4-3-3 to adapt to the Fire’s attack. This ultimately forced multiple players out of position and NYCFC was lucky enough to steal a point in Bridgeview.

Mike and J.R. welcome CJ Reo to the show to breakdown this week’s underwhelming draw. They also touch base on the USWNT’s preparations for France and discuss the US U20’s as they compete in Poland in the U20 World Cup.

NYCFC Can’t Contain the Fire, Russia Impresses NYCSC / Ep 185 / Blue City Radio

Ep 185:

NYCFC headed to Chicago to take on a mediocre Chicago Fire team and NYCFC responded with a mediocre performance.  Seemingly plagued with the inability to start road games with the proper intensity NYCFC once again conceded an early goal.

The Blues would battle back to close out the half leading 2-1, but the creative play of the Fire’s Kattai on the right wing would be too much for the NYCFC defense and Sean Johnson as the team would relinquish the lead and fail to find an equalizer.

Torrent in his second game confounded some with late substitutions and the team confounded him with their erratic attacking style.  Look for things to change once he gets more familiar with the squad.

In the second segment Dave Moncion (author of the “It Happened Without Warning” chant) @doobie_rockz from New York City Supporters Club joins the show to talk about his experience in Moscow watching the World Cup.
