Winning Pretty and Winning Ugly / Ep 357 / Blue City Radio

Episode 357:

It was another cold home opener for NYCFC in the Bronx but the boys in blue were on fire as they made easy work of CF Montreal 4-1. Then the team travelled to Guatemala for leg 2 of the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals and looked very poor playing some of the club’s worst soccer since 2015. Luckily, they were good enough to advance 5-5 with the away goals advantage.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen welcome two guests to the show. Hady Raphael from The Ball Is Round podcast gives his thoughts on CF Montreal and then in the CCL recap they are joined by Chris Campbell of the Outfield to try and explain what happened in Guatemala.

Keeping the Concacaf Momentum / Ep 356 / Blue City Radio

Episode 356:

Not many NYCFC fans made it to Vancouver for the second regular season match for the Pigeons. The number probably was not too far off from the number of supporters that traveled to Connecticut for the first leg of the CCL Quarterfinals.

This week the guys discuss the 0-0 draw from the weekend and then reconvene on Tuesday after the 3-1 victory over Communicaciones.

Welcome Thiago (No the Other One) / Ep 353 / Blue City Radio

Episode 353:

With just over a week to go before NYCFC begins the CCL tournament the team made a splash signing, adding Brazilian defender, Thiago Martins, to the roster. The 26 year old will definitely change the look of NYCFC’s back line and hopefully for the best.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen discuss the impact of the signing and give their thoughts on how Ronny Deila will adjust to fit Thiago into the rosters.

In the second segment the guys welcome their resident Costa Rican expert, Jose Receman, to the show to discuss NYCFC’s opponent in the first round of CCL, Santos de Guapiles.

Verde with Envy / Ep 305 / Blue City Radio

Episode 305:

While he wasn’t perfect, he was the Captain for NYCFC when they finished first in the Eastern Conference in 2019. Alex Ring departs the club with one of the best careers of all the players that wore the badge representing New York. His grit and determination will be missed both on the field and in the locker room.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen look back at the midfielder’s career and also discuss what David Lee and company need to do in the offseason to justify this move.

In the second segment the guys have a brief conversation about the loss to Tigres in CCL.

Tigres Shocker at RBA and Checking In With Sebastian Velasquez / Ep 268 / Blue City Radio

Episode 268:

Following the loss to Columbus in week one of the MLS Season NYCFC head coach, Ronny Deila, commented on how he hoped he could have gotten back on the field in three days to get the bad feeling out of his head. Sadly after conceding a goal in the last minute of play last week in Harrison, NJ, Deila and the boys in blue will have to wait much longer to get a chance to change the narrative of the club in 2020. The entire globe is gripped by the Coronavirus pandemic and the sports world has ground to a halt.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen look at the Tigres game and speculate on what decisions really dictated the outcome of the game.

In the second segment former NYCFC midfielder, Sebastian Velasquez, joins the show to discuss where he’s playing now and he shares some great stories about the first season with NYCFC.

Dazed and Confused / Ep 267 / Blue City Radio

Episode 267:

It doesn’t take much for NYCFC fans to forget that the club advanced for the first time to the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals. Quite honestly, it only took just over 90 minutes. NYCFC went up to Toronto and looked a bit lost. The passes weren’t connecting, the runs were out of sequence and then there was the defending. The only true bright spot was the goal tending as Sean Johnson would only get beat by a shot deflected by Ronald Matarrita.

This week Mike, Jon, J.R. and Mike Allen breakdown the Toronto game. Then they share and discuss some of the audio from NYCFC’s media day event.

The guys wrap up the episode talking about the biggest game in club history, the home leg of the quarterfinals in Red Bull Arena.

1-0 and 0-1 / Ep 266 / Blue City Radio

Episode 266:

Ronny Deila had some tough choices to make in his line ups for the two games this week. He got the result he wanted at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, but an early Maxime Chanot red card derailed his plans for the MLS Season Opener in Columbus.

This week Mike, Jon and J.R. take a look at Deila’s choices and the way the two games played out.

They also look at the action from MLS Week 1 and NYCFC’s new signing.

Debutants In the Spotlight / Ep 265 / Blue City Radio

Episode 265:

NYCFC played their first international competitive match and passed the test with flying colors. It was by no means the perfect game, but luckily for Ronny Deila’s team their performance was strong enough on the attacking side to leave some room for error.

This week Mike, Jon and J.R. take a look at what worked for the team and what tweaks Deila might make for the home leg on Wednesday.

In the second segment the guys welcome Danny Urquia from Los Fuisiosos who was down in Costa Rica for the game. He shares his stories and perspective on the event.

Bring On the Champion’s League / Ep 264 / Blue City Radio

Episode 234:

The time has arrived. Supporters have begun their journey’s south and the team itself is headed down to Costa Rica ahead of Thursday’s match up.

Mike, Jon and Mike Allen take a listen to two new media interviews, one with Sean Johnson and the second with Head Coach Ronny Deila. In between the two interviews the guys welcome Jose Recamon from Soccer Investments to help give us perspective and insight on AD San Carlos.

Stadium Blues and Stadium News / Ep 263 / Blue City Radio

Episode 263:

The chaos began last Wednesday. Yes, just a week ago things were kind of quiet on the NYCFC front. Then the first report surfaced from Costa Rica. Then there was the fan jersey launch event in midtown. Then there was the NY Times article. Then there was the official announcement on the CCL venue… do you need to hear more?

This week Mike, Jon and JR try to cover all of the drama and they try to get all of the perspectives in one guest-packed show. First up, Carol Martinez from Minervas joins the show to explain the sentiment of the upset fanbase.

In the second segment NY Times reporter David Waldstein joins Mike and JR to discuss his article from last Friday and to elaborate on the details he uncovered on NYCFC’s stadium plan.
