Pirlo’s Final Five Minutes and a Visit From Trey Fillmore / Ep 144 / Blue City Radio

Episode 144:

NYCFC’s season came to end after an elimination victory (yes soccer is a weird sport) versus Columbus.  With the end of their 2017 season, so too ends the career of Andrea Pirlo, a true legend of the game.

Mike and Jon talk about leg 1 of the MLS Conference Semifinals.  Then Trey Fillmore from Blue Balls Pod joins the guys to talk about leg 2.

There’s Still MLS / Ep 140 / Blue City Radio

Episode 140:

This will be one of the most dated episodes ever done.  Typically recording on Monday and then posting on Wednesday isn’t that much of an issue.  But when the USMNT gets eliminated from the World Cup on Tuesday, it’s tough to sound relevant if you’re not talking about their failure.

Mike and Jon do discuss the “more official” announcement from Andrea Pirlo about his retirement from soccer in December. They also discuss the US win over Panama  and the US U17’s strong showing in India.

The second segment gives a snapshot into the New England Revolution and how the team looks after the firing of Jay Heaps as Alex Almeida from Six States One Pod joins the show.

Aging Gracefully and a Chat with Matt Doyle / Ep 135 / Blue City Radio

Episode 135:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Andrea Pirlo shined in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory for NYCFC over Sporting Kansas City, but it would only take one play on Saturday to erase that memory and remind MLS and world soccer pundits alike that Pirlo is Pirlo.

Mike and Jon recap the pair of games from this week. In the second segment The Armchair Analyst, Matt Doyle, joins the show to give his thoughts on NYCFC and VAR.

Inconsistent All the Time, Joe Goldstein and NYCFC visits Adidas NYC / Ep 129 / Blue City Radio

Episode 129:

Mike and Jon watched the Toronto game together on Sunday and then broadcast an episode of City Post Game Live, so needless to say, they were pretty much over the 4-0 loss to the league leaders, TFC.

Luckily, Mike had the fortune to attend the NYCFC Team Signing event in Manhattan earlier in the week.  The guys listen to the interviews captured there and discuss those chats with the players.

In the second segment, Joe Goldstein from Seeing Red and a bunch of other outlets joins the show to discuss this week’s game, the Hudson River Derby.

Impressing Pirlo, Welcoming James and Chatting With Martin / Ep 125 / Blue City Radio

Episode 125:

The show begins with a short story about Pratum Coller, the vineyard owned by Andrea Pirlo’s family. Then Mike and Jon discuss the signing of James Sands and what it means for NYCFC in 2017 and beyond.

The conversation continues as the guys go back to discuss the home game versus Minnesota United.

Finally, Martin Bihl joins the show and there ends to complete sense of structure.  Somehow the trio cover a variety of topics and even some of them are soccer related.

Guess We Got History Now / Ep 119 / Blue City Radio

Episode 119:

It was a roller coaster of a week for NYCFC and it’s fans.  Following a hard fought draw in Dallas, the team flew directly to Sandy, UT and prepared for a midweek match up with RSL.  Joined by the few team members that did not make the trip to Texas, the team started off the RSL game by capitalizing on a defensive error.  Sadly, NYCFC was unable to hold the scoreline conceding twice.  I guess luckily for most fans, they didn’t have to suffer through a poor performance because YES Network delayed the broadcast until after midnight rather than moving the game to a subsidiary channel.  Has no one at YES watch an Olympic event on CNBC? It’s a common practice nowadays.

On Friday Andrea Pirlo celebrated his 38th birthday, a milestone for sure, but it would appear that he celebrated on his own at home in Manhattan after returning to NY following a knee injury.

Then came the glorious game on Sunday.  NYCFC went into Orlando Stadium, a place where in it’s young history the home team had only dropped two points out of it’s first six games, and handed the Lions their first loss.

Mike and Jon break down the key points from both games.  They discuss Patrick Vieira’s comments from the past three games and look into the contrast or evolution of the still relatively inexperienced head coach.

In the second segment, the color analyst for Fox Sports and one of the most polarizing pundits in soccer today, Alexi Lalas, joins the show to shed more light and depth on his thoughts on NYCFC, Villa, Pirlo and or course the rest of the beautiful Pigeons.

The guys wrap up the show with some final thoughts on the week and look ahead at the tough task of taking on Atlanta United in front of another sellout crowd this Sunday.

NYCFC 2.0 Handles the Crew and Eric Quintana Explains ATL / Ep 116 / Blue City Radio

Episode 116:

Without Andrea Pirlo or David Villa, NYCFC head to Mapfre Stadium, a place they’ve never won and get a gritty 3-2 victory.  Newcomers Ben Sweat and Manchester City Loanee, Yangel Herrera both factored heavily into the outcome teaming up for the equalizer in the second half.  Herrera also getting an assist on NYCFC’s goal ahead goal.

After breaking down the game and discussing what this outcome means for the future of NYCFC, Mike and Jon invite Eric Quintana (@EricGQuintana) from Mouths of the South Podcast to join the show and breakdown the Atlanta United ahead of their first trip to New York.

Au Revoir DC, Cheers Tommy Smyth / Ep 113 / Blue City Radio

Episode 113:

Patrick Vieira made some interesting decisions in preparing his game plan for Saturday’s match versus DC United.  Unfortunately, they didn’t go as planned and NYCFC fell to DC 2-1.  Mike and Jon look at the biggest moments of that game and respond to your questions about the team through five games in 2017.

In the second segment Philadelphia Union analyst and Sirius XM host, Tommy Smyth, joins the show to discuss the upcoming fixture set for Friday at 7pm.

The guys close out the show with final thoughts on DC and a brief conversation about the joint bid for the 2026 World Cup.

NYCFC Roster Depth, Ian Joy, Girls’ Academy and Predictions / Ep 107 / Blue City Radio

Episode 107:

Mike and Jon discuss the final preseason game for the 2017 season.  It was an important game because NYCFC debuted three players for the game.  The guys close out the first segment with their thoughts on where players sit on the Depth Chart; who starts, who’s competing, who’s not even close? It’s all there.

The second segment features one of NYCFC’s newest podcasters, Ian Joy.  Ian gives his impressions on what this team is capable of achieving if the pieces fit together.  He also talks about his new project, Soccer Joy NYCFC.

The show ends with a talk about the news that NYCFC is adding a Girls’ Academy program this year and some 2017 first team predictions.

Getting Younger, Who’s the Six? / Ep 101 / Blue City Radio

Episode 101

NYCFC has added some new players both through loan deals and the MLS Superdraft.  One position still remains without a clear starter, the Defensive Midfielder.

Mike and Jon discuss the roster changes and look at the philosophy of NYCFC relative to being a younger team.  They also touch on the blockbuster trade that sent Dax McCarty from Red Bull to Chicago.

In the second segment, Bobby Warshaw from Howler Podcast and The Play Podcast joins the guys to talk about the MLS Superdraft, college soccer, and the impact of the number six on a team.

Finally the guys finish up with a discussion on the NYCFC pre-season and the 2017 schedule.
