NYCFC Might Finally Have a 10, But Not a Clear Number 1 / Ep 399 / Blue City Radio

Episode 399:

Last week Nick Cushing was pressed to clarify who he feels will be the starting keeper for NYCFC for the game this week against Nashville. Instead of clearing the air the coach added more layers to the controversy.

In this episode Mike and Mike Allen take a look at the big storylines for the club heading into the opening weekend. In the second segment Michele Giannone from TUDN gives the guys his thoughts on who will win the Eastern Conference this year, and spoiler alert, it’s not NYCFC.

Drafting Depth / Ep 394 / Blue City Radio

Episode 394:

The turnover on the NYCFC roster has begun and it is full of surprises. Fans have come to expect some players to move on and after winning the championship in 2021 the value of some players was at its highest. This year the change is looking to be more drastic than in the past and it’s not even January yet.

This week in the final episode of 2022 the guys look at the changes coming and the evolution of Nick Cushing’s first full roster.

Cushing Defends His Tactics As the Losses Continue, and an Old Friend Pays a Visit / Ep 381 / Blue City Radio

Episode 381:

Is the pressure getting to be too much for Nick Cushing? The NYCFC Interim Head Coach appeared to snap at Mike Allen during a post game press conference last week in CitiField. Sadly, that was not the worst part of the coach’s week as his team would lose another game to league debutants, Charlotte FC.

This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen discuss the contentious interaction from Wednesday and some of the key points from both games. In the second segment, former NYCFC Communications Team member, Woody Wilder, joins the show to discuss the expansion side Charlotte FC.

Help, I’ve Lost My Star Players and I Can’t Get Up / Ep 380 / Blue City Radio

Episode 380:

If you were born before 2000 you probably remember this popular television commercial. An elderly woman is home alone and accidentally falls with no one around. She desperately cries out for help but no one can hear her? The audience is left wondering how long she will suffer until help arrives.

The elderly woman is a good representation of NYCFC at the moment. Devastated by long term injuries and the loan departure of Taty Castellanos, the one time point leaders for all of MLS since 2016 captured only three points of a possible 21 since August 1. The reigning champions and former top tier competitors have become mediocre at best, and that’s being kind.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen do their best to break it all down and see if there’s any light at the end of the tunnel.

Righting the Ship (Hopefully) / Ep 378 / Blue City Radio

Episode 378:

NYCFC faced two relatively weaker opponents last week, but based on the results you would not have known that. The pigeons dropped three home points at Red Bull Arena against debutantes Charlotte FC, but luckily shook off that performance and stole three points from the Chicago Fire on the weekend.

It was a week of poor midfield defending from both NYCFC and their opponents.

The guys take a quick look at each game and then discuss the newest signing off waivers.

The Fort Lauderdale Fracas / Ep 377 / Blue City Radio

Episode 377:

The sparks were flying down in Florida and not all in a good way for NYCFC. The boys in blue jumped out to another lead in this match but similar to the previous match in Columbus, mistakes would cost NYCFC all three points.

This week the guys look at the bad and the ugly from this match. They also breakdown Nick Cushing’s choices through out the match and his comments post-game.

They also discuss the fragmenting of the fanbase and look ahead at the upcoming match against Charlotte.

The Learning Curve Take 4.5 / Ep 376 / Blue City Radio

Episode 376:

The Columbus Crew are always a challenging opponent for NYCFC. This year the Crew have one of their strongest rosters in years and NYCFC and interim head coach, Nick Cushing, are still wading through the post-Taty waters. It was a recipe for disappointment and Saturday’s match lived up to its billing.

The guys take a deep dive into the letdowns and missed opportunities from the 3-2 loss. Then they do their best to look ahead at the final games of the season and discuss who they feel Cushing should play for key matches.

Castella-dios / Ep 374 / Blue City Radio

Episode 374:

He came, he scored, he conquered. Valentine Castellanos departs NYCFC as one of the team’s most adored players. While the deal surrounding his departure was not one for the headlines, his legacy will remain strong and solid in New York. And as the player said himself via instagram, “This is not goodbye but see you later.”

This week Chris Campbell joins Mike and Mike Allen to discuss the striker’s impact on the club and what happens next for NYCFC.

In the second segment, Joe Lowery from Backheeled.com and The Total Soccer Show comes on to give his outsiders perspective on all things NYCFC and some USMNT topics.

The show wraps up with a look at Taty’s last game, the victory against Inter Miami including an interview from the midweek with Alfredo Morales.

Six Crucial Road Points / Ep 373 / Blue City Radio

Episode 373:

Nick Cushing lead NYCFC to their first win under his watch in the previous week against New England, but this week the interim head coach looked to get his first road victory in charge. In order to do so, he would have to face some difficult challenges given travel, game time temperatures, injuries, suspensions and two difficult opponents.

Well, he was up to the task and then some. Cushing deployed two very distinct approaches to two very different opponents and lead the team to two one-nil victories.

This week the guys discuss these two games in depth and also go over the news that was all over Twitter on Sunday and Monday, that Taty Castellanos’s future is finally set.
