Ugly Wins Count the Same As Pretty Ones / Ep 187 / Blue City Radio

Episode 187:

NYCFC took the fight to Red Bull in Yankee Stadium on Sunday night.  It wasn’t a typical NYCFC match, but it was good enough for the victory and that was enough to satisfy the players, the coach and the supporters.

This week Mike, Mike Allen and J.R. are joined by John Harbour (@themaninseat9) of Watertower FC as they discuss the sloppy, gritty win in a critical battle for second place in the Eastern Conference.

We also have post game audio from Ben Sweat, Alex Ring, Anton Tinnerholm, Rodney Wallace and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi.

NYCFC Can’t Contain the Fire, Russia Impresses NYCSC / Ep 185 / Blue City Radio

Ep 185:

NYCFC headed to Chicago to take on a mediocre Chicago Fire team and NYCFC responded with a mediocre performance.  Seemingly plagued with the inability to start road games with the proper intensity NYCFC once again conceded an early goal.

The Blues would battle back to close out the half leading 2-1, but the creative play of the Fire’s Kattai on the right wing would be too much for the NYCFC defense and Sean Johnson as the team would relinquish the lead and fail to find an equalizer.

Torrent in his second game confounded some with late substitutions and the team confounded him with their erratic attacking style.  Look for things to change once he gets more familiar with the squad.

In the second segment Dave Moncion (author of the “It Happened Without Warning” chant) @doobie_rockz from New York City Supporters Club joins the show to talk about his experience in Moscow watching the World Cup.

Vieira’s Wonderful World of Aah’s / Ep 181 / Blue City Radio

Episode 181:

Patrick Vieira did his best to emulate the magical wizard in the movie classic.  In traditional magician’s style he distracted Orlando with a bizarre alignment that seemingly confused some of the NYCFC players as the team missed passes and was uncoordinated on attack.  They were saved in the first half by the spectacular finish of Tajouri-Shradi and the missed PK by Orlando Captain Sacha Klestjan.

And then, by the stroke of his wand and a spell out an ancient leather-bound text, the real NYCFC was revealed in all it’s 4-3-3 beauty.

Mike, Jon and J. R. take a look at the lineup and decisions by Vieira trying to understand the rationale and the long game by the coach.  We also hear post game clips from Ben Sweat, Alex Ring, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Jon Lewis and Sean Johnson.

Pointing Fingers Is Not Enough For NYCFC To Get the Win / Ep 173 / Blue City Radio

Episode 173:

It took 4 minutes for NYCFC to lose on Saturday.  Some say it took even less.  Sadly, NYCFC fans would have to suffer through another 92 minutes of the game.  While the banter was heated leading into this match as usual, Red Bull stunned NYCFC and quieted their fans early.

Anthony Merced, the newest Dude In Blue, joins the show to discuss his recap and defends his case against our resident geography guru, J.R. deBart.

It was a bad performance by NYCFC, we hope our episode was less painful, but similar to Saturday, you might have to wait for the second half to find the bright spots.

Villa Gets 400 and 401, But More Importantly NYCFC Get 3 / Ep 171 / Blue City Radio

Episode 171:

David Villa was recently criticized for being a ball hog.  On Sunday April 29, versus FC Dallas, Villa proved his detractors wrong being a distributor and playmaker creating multiple chances for NYCFC and having a key pass on the team’s first goal.

Mike, Mike and J.R. look back at the game and break down the key plays.  Mike also brings back locker room quotes from Alex Ring, Anton Tinnerholm, Jon Lewis, Ben Sweat and Sebastian Ibeagha.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Not the Game / Ep 169 / Blue City Radio

Episode 169:

There are so many cliches to describe this moment, but listing them all would take more effort than worth contributing to describe the mess of a game NYCFC played in Portland.  The hottest team in the league looked like a shell of itself.  The badge on the jerseys was the same, but only a handful of NYCFC players resembled the names on the back.

Mike Anderer, Mike Allen  and J.R. deBart take a broad look at the impact of the loss and some of the key plays from Sunday.  We also hear Patrick Vieira and Sean Johnson following the match.

The Captain Returns / Ep 167 / Blue City Radio

Episode 167:

Add Mercedes Benz Arena to your list of “Must Visit Soccer Venues in the US”.  It’s as simple as that.  From the facility, to the affordable concessions, to the constant sell-outs there is so much to love about MBS. Luckily for NYCFC, the venue did not intimidate and the visitors left with a solid 2-2 draw retaining their undefeated record.

Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen break down the game and discuss all the key plays.  We also have quotes from Sean Johnson, Jo Inge Berget, David Villa and Alex Ring.

100 Caps For Villa and a Grand Welcome for Tinnerholm / Ep 159 / Blue City Radio

Episode 159:

Yankee Stadium welcomed the NYCFC crowd for the first time in 2018.  Almost 26,000 were treated to solid display of Patrick Vieira’s vision of NYCFC’s style.  While the game wasn’t perfect and the Galaxy were able to create some chances, NYCFC dictated the tempo of the game up until the final 15 minutes.

Mike, Jon and J.R. discuss the key plays to the game.  J.R. draws a line in the sand over the play of Rodney Wallace and for once Mike defends Wallace and his contributions to the club.  In the end NYCFC was good enough to hold on to the narrow 2-1 margin for the Home Opening victory.

Medina Betters Melia and NYCFC Betters KC / Ep 157 / Blue City Radio

Episode 157:

The new MLS Season is here.  Mike, Jon and J.R. get right into breaking down the 2-0 victory in Kansas City.  The guys discuss the lineup decisions by Vieira, the impact of VAR on the game and punishing counter attack that almost lead to three goals for the Blues.

Look forward to our preview show later this week as we prepare for the Home Opener versus the LA Galaxy this Sunday.

Final Preseason Tune-Up And a Few Predictions From Chris Magalee of NYCFC Nation / Ep 155 / Blue City Radio

Episode 155:

NYCFC closed out the preseason with a 2-2 draw versus Montreal.  While David Villa continued to impress and wow fans with his skill, the rest of NYCFC did little to put their stamp on the game.  Montreal scored two goals, both off poor decisions by NYCFC players.

Mike, Jon and J.R. talk about the news of the week including the signing of Ebenezer Ofori and then invite NYCFC Nation contributor, Chris Magalee (@_ChrisFC) to the show to break down the Montreal game but also the preseason in general and make some bold predictions.
