NYCFC played well last Wednesday in Seattle, but still left the west coast down 3-1 heading into this week’s second leg of the CCL semifinals. The challenge is tough, but not insurmountable.

Running On Fumes / Ep 358 / Blue City Radio

Episode 358:

NYCFC knew they had a tall task ahead of them hosting Philadelphia at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. The Pigeons were one game away from a much needed rest after the whirlwind preseason and Champions League run. Philadelphia came in hoping to avenge the playoff loss the previous year.

This week the guys give their thoughts on a poor game, but also look that the bright spots of the match. Then they discuss the look ahead at the inaugural NYCFC II season and some crucial World Cup Qualifiers for the USMNT.

Winning Pretty and Winning Ugly / Ep 357 / Blue City Radio

Episode 357:

It was another cold home opener for NYCFC in the Bronx but the boys in blue were on fire as they made easy work of CF Montreal 4-1. Then the team travelled to Guatemala for leg 2 of the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals and looked very poor playing some of the club’s worst soccer since 2015. Luckily, they were good enough to advance 5-5 with the away goals advantage.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen welcome two guests to the show. Hady Raphael from The Ball Is Round podcast gives his thoughts on CF Montreal and then in the CCL recap they are joined by Chris Campbell of the Outfield to try and explain what happened in Guatemala.

Chicharito Steals Three Points In LA / Ep 355 / Blue City Radio

Episode 355:

NYCFC did not play it’s best game yet still was minutes away from escaping LA with a point. The pigeons had overcome some questionable calls by referee Joe Dickerson to reach the 90th minute level, but a Keaton Parks error would leave the Galaxy a golden opportunity and they capitalized.

This week the guys discuss the opening week loss and the Champions league victory that helped them advance to the quarterfinals.

The First Victory of 2022 and Some Inspiration from Ian Joy / Ep 354 / Blue City Radio

Episode 354:

NYCFC was in a familiar situation on Tuesday night down in Costa Rica. For the second time in three official matches they’d be facing a team with less than it’s full squad of players and starters available for selection.

The hosts for the first leg of the CCL opening round, Santos de Guapiles, would be without four key players due to a recent change in visa policies in Costa Rica. NYCFC would take full advantage of the situation and cruise to a 2-0 victory as the teams head to California for the home leg.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen give their thoughts on the game. In the second segment, Ian Joy visits the guys to get the fans excited for the season as NYCFC looks to defend their championship title.

The guys close out the show with some 2022 predictions and give their over / unders for the year.

Welcome Thiago (No the Other One) / Ep 353 / Blue City Radio

Episode 353:

With just over a week to go before NYCFC begins the CCL tournament the team made a splash signing, adding Brazilian defender, Thiago Martins, to the roster. The 26 year old will definitely change the look of NYCFC’s back line and hopefully for the best.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen discuss the impact of the signing and give their thoughts on how Ronny Deila will adjust to fit Thiago into the rosters.

In the second segment the guys welcome their resident Costa Rican expert, Jose Receman, to the show to discuss NYCFC’s opponent in the first round of CCL, Santos de Guapiles.

A Chilly Reception In Canada for the USMNT / Ep / 352

Episode 352:

Gregg Berhalter was oddly content with the US players’ performances on Sunday as the US lost 2-0 to Canada. Yes, the early goal conceded by the US was a self-inflicted wound, but the result was still not good enough and there is concern that the coach will be slow to correct errors with only four games remaining in the qualifying cycle.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen invite former NYCFC defender, Kwame Awuah, on the show to discuss the growth of soccer north of the border.

Putting A Bow on 2021 With Joe Tolleson / Ep 349 / Blue City Radio

Episode 349:

The celebrations are finished. The roster turnover has officially begun. It’s time for the guys to hang up the microphones for the rest of 2021. It has been a great year for NYCFC and the seventh season of Blue City Radio ends with a visit from the Yes Network play-by-play commentator, Joe Tolleson.

MLS Is Blue! / Ep 348 / Blue City Radio

Episode 348:

There are times when it still doesn’t feel real. For all of the hope and promise that NYCFC has given its fans during the first six seasons, there was always that let down in the playoffs. The fan base has seen the team fail in the playoffs more than they’ve seen them fail in the regular season.

But this year, after the drought, after the miserable results against Red Bull and Chicago, this year when the team and their fans went to Foxborough, MA, this year would be different.

Endulge Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen as they talk about the MLS Cup and what it means to them and to all the NYCFC fans around the world.

Cup Bound! / Ep 347 / Blue City Radio

Episode 347:

The anticipation levels are high. The waiting is agony. NYCFC plays in its first MLS Cup Final on Saturday following a dramatic 2-1 win over a depleted Philadelphia Union squad.

This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen take you through the game in Chester. Then Kyle Pinnell from the Rose City Reviews gives the guys all the ins and outs of the Portland Timbers.

It’s MLS Cup Final week and NYCFC are still alive. This is an amazing feeling.
