Bad weather caused a delay on Saturday for NYCFC and Colorado, so it’s only fitting that bad weather on Monday (7/22) caused an interruption to this podcast.

This week Mike, Jon, J.R. and Mike Allen look back at the errors that almost cost NYCFC 3 points in Denver. They also talk about the positives. In the second segment Mike gets his first chance to talk with Gary Mackay-Steven.

It is upsetting when the referees, the ones there to maintain control and ensure the laws are the followed, don’t themselves know the laws of the game. That is what happened on Sunday evening in Red Bull Arena as NYCFC fell 2-1 to Red Bull.

This week’s episode kicks off with an interview with filmmakers Gregory Jenkins and Damisi Rosemond. They have been working for years on the project, Battle For New York. Greg and Damisi talk about the inspiration and motivation for the film and the project’s next steps.

In the second segment Justin Egan from Outfield.org joins the show and helps Mike and J.R. unwrap everything that happened in Sunday’s match. There’s also audio post game from Alex Ring and Sean Johnson.

For the fourth time in eight tournaments, the US Women’s National Team took the trophy home as World Cup Champions. The final in Lyon, France was a hard fought battle against the reigning champions of Europe, but the US with all the pressure on them rose to the challenge.

This week Mike, Jon and J.R. open the show talking about the US’s run in the tournament. Then the guys pivot to the USMNT as they lost to Mexico in the Gold Cup final. After that the talk gets around to NYCFC and their 1-0 loss again at the hands of Giovanni Saverese and the Portland Timbers. Lastly, Mike and J.R. welcome NYCFCPigeon to the show to hear about his project StreetGols.

NYCFC welcomed first place Philadelphia Union to Yankee Stadium last week. Dome Torrent chose a defensive plan to face the potent Union attack and that plan failed early. Lucky for NYCFC, Torrent also had a back up plan, go back to the formation that has been working for the team for the past eight games.
