Coast To Coast / Ep 190 / Blue City Radio

Episode 190:

Domenec Torrent had a successful start in MLS winning four of his first five games.  He also had his first run in with the absurdity that is MLS scheduling, a system that will humble even the best coaches in the business.

Torrent and NYCFC went down to Orlando and won an ugly game on Thursday, but then the team had to fly across the country to the Pacific Northwest for their next fixture in Seattle.  Despite a strong start, NYCFC would begin to wilt in the Seattle sun and lose 3-1 on an uncharacteristically hot Sunday afternoon.

Mike, Jon and J.R. break down the weeks games and discuss the news of the week.

The 12 Days of Off-ness / Ep 189 / Blue City Radio

Episode 189:

After pushing through a tough stretch with three games in eight days, NYCFC found themselves with twelve days off.  Luckily, Claudio and Dome kept the team active with a scrimmage versus USL/PDL affiliate the Long Island Rough Riders and hosted CFG brethren Manchester City Football Club at the training facility in Orangeburg.

So even though there was no game this week for the club we have a lot to share with you.  Mike, Mike Allen and J.R. discuss the week’s news.  We have audio from Tommy McNamara, David Villa and two scrums with Domenec Torrent.  Mike also spoke with Adrian Conoboy from We Can Kick It, a local community organization that uses soccer to help kids cope with cancer issues.  Lastly, Jordan Griffith from the NYC Football Podcast joined Mike following the Rough Rider scrimmage.

Let the Kids Play / Ep 188 / Blue City Radio

Episode 188:

Domenec Torrent came into MLS and NYCFC with an extensive resume and brought along with him a coaching staff that all have experience developing youth talent.  So it should be no surprise to anyone that in Torrent’s early days as NYCFC head coach he has looked to the youth of the team to due their part in securing the team points.

This week Andy Maycraft (@viewfrom226) joins Mike and J.R. to discuss NYCFC’s busy week and Torrent’s tendencies as they become apparent game by game.

There’s also locker room audio from James Sands, Kwame Awuah, Jon Lewis, Ronald Matarrita and Sean Johnson.

Ugly Wins Count the Same As Pretty Ones / Ep 187 / Blue City Radio

Episode 187:

NYCFC took the fight to Red Bull in Yankee Stadium on Sunday night.  It wasn’t a typical NYCFC match, but it was good enough for the victory and that was enough to satisfy the players, the coach and the supporters.

This week Mike, Mike Allen and J.R. are joined by John Harbour (@themaninseat9) of Watertower FC as they discuss the sloppy, gritty win in a critical battle for second place in the Eastern Conference.

We also have post game audio from Ben Sweat, Alex Ring, Anton Tinnerholm, Rodney Wallace and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi.

Welcome Dome, Now Beat the Red Bulls / Ep 186 / Blue City Radio

Episode 186:

NYCFC are 9-4-4 through the first half of the season.  It’s been a chaotic last few weeks in and around the club with the departure of Patrick Vieira and the arrival of Dome Torrent.  NYCFC took once again to the streets of New York City, specifically to the iconic Rockefeller Plaza in a partnership with Telemundo to bring fans a unique watch party experience.  To highlight that activation NYCFC held two media events on the mini-pitch at the plaza.  The first was Tuesday with players: Alex Callens, Jesus Medina, Alex Ring, Sean Johnson, and Rodney Wallace.  The second was with new Head Coach Domenec Torrent.

Enjoy this week’s preview episode.

NYCFC Can’t Contain the Fire, Russia Impresses NYCSC / Ep 185 / Blue City Radio

Ep 185:

NYCFC headed to Chicago to take on a mediocre Chicago Fire team and NYCFC responded with a mediocre performance.  Seemingly plagued with the inability to start road games with the proper intensity NYCFC once again conceded an early goal.

The Blues would battle back to close out the half leading 2-1, but the creative play of the Fire’s Kattai on the right wing would be too much for the NYCFC defense and Sean Johnson as the team would relinquish the lead and fail to find an equalizer.

Torrent in his second game confounded some with late substitutions and the team confounded him with their erratic attacking style.  Look for things to change once he gets more familiar with the squad.

In the second segment Dave Moncion (author of the “It Happened Without Warning” chant) @doobie_rockz from New York City Supporters Club joins the show to talk about his experience in Moscow watching the World Cup.
