Blocking Their Way To 3pts, The Armchair Analyst, and Two Big Games / Ep 70 / Blue City Radio

Episode 70:

It never goes the way it’s scripted.  After firing Jason Kreis and replacing him with an unproven rookie Head Coach in Patrick Vieira, NYCFC’s 2017 was supposed to be another foray into mishandling of the personnel and wasted opportunities.  But after two hard fought victories against Vancouver and DC United, NYCFC headed out to one of the toughest venues to play at in MLS, Providence Park.  And they won.

This week, Mike and Jon discuss the effort needed to hold off the Portland offense, the luck involved in getting the win and likely heroes in the game.

In the second segment Matt Doyle, The Armchair Analyst, and regular contributor to MLSSoccer.com and Extra Time Radio joins the show to discuss NYCFC.  Earlier in the month Matt had detailed on Extra Time Radio why mathematically NYCFC cannot make the playoffs in their sophomore season.  Mike and Jon get his analysis and opinion on what pieces work and which ones should move on.

We wrap the show with predictions on TFC and the “Second Biggest Rivalry in MLS” the match up on Saturday with the Red Bulls.  And last but certainly not least, NYCFC fans say goodbye to two original blogs, NYCFCFan Podcast and NYCFCBlues.

Two In a Row, a Dude Stops By, Kolker on Portland and Ethan White / Blue City Radio / Ep 69

Episode 69:

Jon Sauerschell had to miss this one, but have no fear, Mike welcomes in Jeff Weisinger from New York Sports Hub to talk about the big three points that NYCFC earned in the crumbling RFK.

In the second segment Jeff and Mike sit down with Joe Amato (who also salvaged the segment after my computer crashed) from Dudes In Blue, one of NYCFC’s newest podcasts.  They discuss successors to Villa and who fills the Grabavoy void.

The show closes with two more special guests.  Tom Kolker, radio voice of NYCFC on WFAN, talks about the team’s first long road trip as they head out to Portland.  Last but certainly not least, Ethan White spends some time with me at training to explain why he loves New York (hint: his girlfriend might be the main reason).

4 out of 6, Steve Clark talks DC, and Players We Need to Talk About / Blue City Radio / Ep 68

Episode 68:

Mike and Jon start off by taking a hard look at some the NYCFC Key Players and their impact on the 2016 season.

Then they are joined by Steve Clark, writer for Total MLS.net to preview the Mother’s Day game versus DC United.

Lastly, we take a quick look at the two games from the past week where NYCFC did the unthinkable and took 4 points of a possible 6 at home against Montreal and Vancouver.
